HEALTHY COMMUNITIES FORUMS

Started in 2011, each Healthy Communities Forum targets decision makers, community leaders, labor, developers, affordable housing advocates, business leaders, and environmentalists to come together and explore how the various facets of the health of our cities - economic, environmental, and social - intersect and most often relate with land use decisions. At each Forum, visionary speakers share their knowledge related to a specific aspect of a healthy community, followed by participants breaking out into groups and engaging in dialogue to connect the vision of a healthy community to their own community and discuss ideas for making their communities "healthier."

Healthy Community: A resilient place that thrives socially, environmentally, and economically by preparing for and adapting to changing conditions and the challenges they bring. In a healthy community, people have the choice of affordably living near their work - with shops, parks, schools, and locally grown food accessible by foot, bicycle, or public transit. Here, people can easily lead lifestyles that are healthful, protect the natural environment, and bolster the local economy.
